ASSESSMENT

Reconstruction

Assessment:

Daily Assessment: One example of a daily assessment is from Lesson 2, in which students write a letter from the Freedmen’s Bureau. In the letter, students respond to a specific problem or need that took place during Reconstruction. In the letter, students demonstrate knowledge of the problems facing southerners after the Civil War and the ways in which the Freedmen’s Bureau tried to assist people after the war.

Culminating Activity: Students will complete a culminating project in which they create a museum exhibit that shows the successes and failures of Reconstruction. Students will use primary sources as well as artifacts they create for their exhibit. They will explain each artifact and what it demonstrates about Reconstruction. Their museum exhibit will include a statement in which students must take a position and explain why Reconstruction was a success or a failure.
