Scholarship: Historians are looking to reach new conclusions, or theses, regarding the past, and looking to its meaning for the present and/or future.
Teaching: To introduce students to the basic ideas of thinking as historians do.
Museums: To introduce the general public to some very general historical specifics.
New media can help this by increasing availability, audience and also by offering new tools for examining history, for example graphics, altering images, etc.
