For my two history website examples, I would like to follow the adage that "journalism is the rough draft of history." Therefore, my two websites are BBC news and the Voice of America, with the BBC site being well designed and the VOA site limping along. The BBC site immediately provides news and links to stories, while the viewer is presented with only one story at the VOA site until you go down another level. The VOA stories then are presented in a bland, boring way with only a laundry list of headlines. The new VOA logo, also, for some reason is not red, white and blue -- the national colors recognizable around the world. The VOA site, which is manned by a skeleton staff in comparison to the BBC, is just not as stimulating as the BBC site.
