Like many thinks so far in this course, I had previously given little thought to web site design. However, after reading the articles for this week it became quite easy to find many sites that demonstrate some basic design flaws.
I decided to confine my quest for two history web sites with a basic yahoo search for "history, Loudoun County". I came up with 85,600 results, although I only needed to look through the first 10 results to find examples of some classic web design mistakes.
The web page for the ,Loudoun County Historical Society is my example of a pooly designed website. My reasoning is that there are graphics behind the texts, making it very distracting to read. Also, I found the pages busy and thus confusing with pictures not relating to the text.
My example of a well designed web page is the Waterford Community Association This website, although not entirely devoted to history, had a sizable section of pages that dealt with the histroy of Waterford, more than 70 in all. The design of the web pages are consistant throughout, except for a few differnt fonts on some of the 70 pages. The pages are all easy to read and not cluttered with useless pictures.
