Building on my web site review essay on websites devoted to units from the Civil War, my last course on Civil War campaigns in Virginia (1864-1865), and Hist 697 Historic Preservation, I have decided to create a web site devoted to places associated with the Civil War that are accessible by Metrorail ( Civil War by Metro). The sites would include museums, historic homes, cemeteries, forts, battlefields, and other important sites associated with the conflict in the DC metro area.
The website would be searchable by category of site and location on a map. Each historic site would have its own page and would have pictures of the site (current and historic), a brief history, links to pertinent websites, and directions by public transportation.
The website would be a resource to tourists to the DC area interested in the Civil War, residents interested in local history, teachers, and students.
