I would like to propose a Website on Journalism History for my final project. The proposal would be for a teaching site, one designed as a supplement for a college undergraduate courses, and not for a solely Web based class. As part of my final project, I would need to research existing sites that involve journalism history and also research journalism history courses. I propose to put together a syllabus and extensive links pages and propose further resources.
For perhaps the most controversial part of my proposal, I propose incorporating some WebCT pages within the Website. This is perhaps unusual in that our history courses, in stressing design and originality do not generally use these off the shelf templates. However, I hope to show that in using such resources (Blackboard is the leading competitor to WebCT), some professors are failing to utilize important pedagogical resources. I propose to integrate WebCT pages into my Website to use their database resources for online grading, self-testing, and examination purposes. I will also demonstrate how these are important feedback mechanisms for the instructor.
