About Our Artifacts
From
a campanile ringing from the belfry of a convent during the Civil
War to Barbie dolls in military uniform to personal items from the
Persian Gulf War, the artifacts in the collections of the Women's
Memorial Foundation give shape and form to the experiences of military
women and to American culture.
They
may be viewed by appointment with our collection
curators.
Artifacts in the collections include three dimensional
objects and textiles such as
- military issue personal items such
as first aid kits and grooming supplies
- uniforms of all services from World
War I to the present including service dress, formal, fatigue
and exercise clothing
- items reflecting popular culture such
as paper dolls, Barbies, buttons, and personal collectibles from
service in the United States and overseas
- medals, insignia and patches
