How to Write an Essay in Response to a Specific Assignment

In order to be successful in writing an essay you should adhere to the following basic rules:

  • In a short introduction, you should have a carefully constructed thesis. The thesis should state clearly why you have selected exactly these three historical periods and what is your understanding of the nature of the change.

  • You should demonstrate your ability to select the appropriate evidence that supports your thesis.

  • You must organize your evidence in chronological order – from the earliest to the more recent facts, events, ideas or personalities.

  • Your text should be coherent, logical and well organized. The essay should have a clear and readily understandable writing style.

  • Your conclusion should outline the connection between the cause and effect and summarize the answer to the question “What were the specific reasons for change?”

  • Remember to speak with authority.
