Clio 3 Introduction

Filed under: kurt — Kurt @ 9:16 pm

My name is Kurt Knoerl. I’m a PhD student in my third semester at George Mason U. I’m also the Managing Director of the online Museum of Underwater Archaeology. I’m interested in how new media can be used to teach history both in the classroom and through the web. It seems a natural way to bring in material culture that might not otherwise be available. This goes to the heart of how I’d like to combine, history, archaeology, and new media.

  1. Kurt – I really like the accessibility statement you have on MUA, and especially the dialogue you have about it on the MUA blog. As someone who witnessed your lamenting of even having to worry about it – I think you have the right attitude, and great commentary on the subject.

  2. Thanks Tai. I learned a lot in Dr. Petrik’s class though sometimes I took some convincing. Accessibility, however, really goes to the whole point of the Internet i.e. a wide distribution of knowledge to those who desire it. To stop short and write off a segment of the population seems self defeating.

I’m glad you’ll be looking in on our class from the GREAT STATE OF KANSAS.
