Brief Submission Guidelines
As a courtesy, authors preparing manuscripts for consideration should style their articles according to the strictures in chapter two of A Manual of Style of Authors (University of Chicago Press). In particular:
- Please send two hard copies of an original submission. We are willing to accept submissions electronically from authors outside of the U.S., but all others should send hard copy. The simple reason is that we cannot afford the number of print cartridges it would take to print out all of our submissions. We will retain one of your submitted copies. If you want the second copy returned, include with your submission postage for one manuscript.
- Except for quotations, manuscripts must be in English.
- Doublespaced endnotes must be grouped together on pages separate from the manuscript and must be complete references modeled after the samples in chapter 15 of the Manual of Style (see above).
- We do not have any length requirements, although our articles tend to be 20-30 pages. A submission will not be rejected on the basis of length. If we are interested in your submission we will ask for revisions in terms of length as well as content.
The Journal of Social History is available electronically with Project Muse
