December 16: Applications to Cohort 1 Due



April 5: Orientation, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Orientation for both cohorts to discuss project requirements, web site, and web modules
Teachers will receive project books and fill out recertification forms


June 21-22: Summer Institute, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Cohort A will participate in all activities
GMU Loudoun Campus and LCPS Central Office

  • June 21:
    • “Evaluating and Analyzing Online Sources,” with GMU’s Allison O’Connor
    • “Historical Thinking Skills,” with GMU Professor T. Mills Kelly
  • June 22:
    • “Hands On Digital Primary Sources,” with GMU’s Allison O’Connor
    • “Using Primary Sources in the Classroom,” with GMU Professor T. Mills Kelly
  • June 25:
    • Week 1 Reflection due


August 16: Primary Source Activity Topics Due
Write and submit summary of primary source activity to be taught during September or October

Cohort B will complete one activity


September/October: Teach Primary Source Activities

Write about experience teaching primary source activity


If not done in September, teach and write about primary source activity
October 18: Annual Keynote Lecture, “Virginia Revolutions and Becoming American,” 4:30-6:30 p.m.

October 23: Keynote Lecture Reflection Due
October 31: Primary Source Activity Case Study Due


November 14: Historical film workshop on Slavery in Film, 4:30-6:30

With Georgetown University Professor Adam Rothman

November 20: Post reflection to Film Workshop on the forum; respond to other’s posts




February 7: Historical Film Workshop on War in Film , 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
