Mark Phillips

Mark Phillips is in his first year as a Ph.D. student at GMU. His research interests include the American war in Vietnam, the role of intelligence in counterinsurgency operations, and the evolution of insurgency over time and place. Mark has extensive overseas experience in military and intelligence capacities. In 1987, Mark earned a Batchelor's degree in History from the University of Maryland at College Park and, in 2003, he earned a Master of Military Studies from the Marine Corps University's Command and Staff College at Quantico, VA. At the Center for History and New Media, Mark is working as a graduate research assistant on the Papers of the War Department project. Mark is a retired American Marine.
