Ken clued me into Squirl, a new site (Beta) designed for collectors to upload images and enter information about their collectibles. They offer a free version for online storage of less than 200 objects, or for $10/year you can upload up to 5000 objects–which I imagine for some is a drop in the bucket of their collections.
The site seems to function like photo-sharing sites. Others may browse objects by contributor, category or tag and comment on them. Users may also search through all of Squirl to find specific things.
I’m also thinking that these collections might be useful for historians. Now the strength of the collections are in popular culture ( “DC” “70sHorror” among the most tags), but they might expand to the diversity of Ebay.

Yes, it is. And also speaks to how more people on the web are getting used to these kinds of interfaces and know how to tag, et al.
