Tom Rushford

Professor Rushford holds a doctorate from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in European history. Though his specific field is in the social and cultural history of the early modern period, Dr. Rushford has taught classes on a variety of topics across the breadth of European history. Currently a member of the faculty at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, Professor Rushford teaches Western Civilization and advanced classes in the area of the Renaissance and Reformation period in European history. Dr. Rushford has spent much time living and researching in Europe while working on his manuscript, receiving substantial grant awards to allow him to do so. His current project involves a study of the social dynamics of witchcraft in Kent, England, and Normandy, France, titled Burnings and Blessings: The Cultural Reality of the Supernatural Across Early Modern European Spaces. Other interests and areas of research include legal history in the Atlantic world, History of the Book and the application of Geographic Information System (GIS) software to history. When not working on his academic projects, Dr. Rushford trains for endurance events and hopes to run a marathon in each state.
