Larry's reputation at Mason preceded him. History classes with Mike O’Malley convinced me that Larry must just have been the coolest professor ever. When he joined Mason I was thrilled that I was able take one of his graduate classes. The best memories are his stories. Especially appropriate is the one he told about his grandson... When he said, "Grandpa, how old are you?" and Larry responded (he didn't tell the class the number...), Grandson said: "Grandpa, you should be dead!" Larry got such a kick out of that, and we loved it. We especially loved that he was very much alive and brimming with enthusiasm, encouragement and, still, wonder at what it was all about. That's how I'll always remember Larry Levine.
