Thoughts on the Columbia Space Shuttle Tragedy

Submitted October 15, 2003, 12:04 PM

What were your thoughts and feelings when you heard that Columbia was lost?
I WAS SAD THINKING OFF ALL THE EDUCATION OF THE ASTRONAUTS THAT WOULD NOT BE USED. THEY WORKED HARD GETTING TO THE SPACE FLIGHT. IT IS A DANGEROUS JOB BUT WE MUST GO ON IN ORDER TO FIND AS MANY ANSWERS TO WHAT IS IN OUR UNIVERSE AS POSSIBLE.
If you are old enough to remember, please compare your responses to other important moments in space travel like the Challenger disaster and the moon walk.
I WAS TEACHING A CLASS IN SOUTH DAKTOTA WHEN THE CHALLENGER DISASTER HAPPENED. I WAS EXCITED THAT A TEACHER WAS GOING. BUT THERE WERE OTHER PEOPLE ON THAT FLIGHT. I FEEL MORE ATTENTION SHOULD HAVE BEEN PAID TO THEM AND THEIR EDUCATION.
Have your views of space travel changed over time?
NO TO PRESERVE OUR WORLD AND COUNTRY WE HAVE TO DO THE WORK WE ARE DOING. OUR VERY LIVES MAY DEPEND ON OUT TECHNOLOGICAL ABILITY IN SPACE.
