Thoughts on the Columbia Space Shuttle Tragedy

What were your thoughts and feelings when you heard that Columbia was lost?
I felt a great sadness for the astronauts, there families and the people all around the world. I remeber when Columbia took off. It was one of the most beautiful days in Florida. I watched the shuttle launch form New Smyrna Beach. The sun was shinning and the sky was so clear. As I watched Columbia leave the atmosphere I could still hear and feel the rumbling. I never thought it would be the last time I would see Columbia launch.
If you are old enough to remember, please compare your responses to other important moments in space travel like the Challenger disaster and the moon walk.
I was in 6th grade at Coronado Elementry School in New Smyrna Beach. The day started off so exciting because we always get to go outside and watch launches on launch day. It was a clear blue sky and we all watched in amazement as the Challenger started to take off. It was so clear that something was wrong. I saw two different paths of smoke and all my joy and happiness turned to tears and sorrow. That image will never leave my memory along with my thoughts of the crew of the space shuttle Challenger. GOD BLESS THEM
Have your views of space travel changed over time?
NO, I beleive space travel is something that we should not take for granted. I think that space exploration is something that is so amazing and something we should always continue. My heart goes out to the people that have risked there lives for it.
