The History of Free and Open Source Software

Submitted February 4, 2003, 4:00 PM

Tell your story of how you got started using or developing free or open source software:
Having been around computers since the fifties, and watching the embedded systems market develop in the 80's, I found that PC-based embedded projects needed a configurable BIOS, available in low volume quantities precluding licensing and getting access to source coce for consumer oriented BIOS'. This led me to publish the source code for the popular BiosKits, which supported the creation of the AnnaBooks product line. The XT BiosKit and the AT BiosKit was the result.
