This gallery presents paintings, sculpture, prints, and photographs by Hungarian artists from the early 18th century to the present day. Roughly 275 Hungarian artists are represented by between one and 40 digital images each, for a collection of roughly 3,500 images. The images can be browsed by artist’s last name and accessed through a search mode. Each artist is accompanied by a short biography. In addition, the site authors have created five “Guided Tours,” such as “Historical Landscape Painting in the 19th Century.” “Centuries of Painting and Sculpture of Hungary” presents famous works in the history of Hungarian art and is useful for exploring Hungarian history and art simultaneously. All images are good quality and zoom to full screen; some are accompanied by additional information contextualizing the works, accessed by clicking on a blue info button to the right of the thumbnail image listing. Images can also be sent as email postcards.
