Cohort 3 Orientation
GMU Loudoun
Teachers accepted to the third cohort of the Teaching American History grant will meet with project staff at the GMU Loudoun Campus on May 21, 2013. The purpose of this meeting will be to introduce teachers to the program requirements, distribute course material, and complete the pre-content survey.
Founding Ideals and Documents
Stone Bridge High School
The first week of the Teaching American History summer institute will be held between June 17 and 21, 2013. Teachers will explore primary and secondary source documents to understand freedom and the founding of the U.S. government in the time period leading up to the Civil War.
Radicalism and Reform
Stone Bridge High School
The second week of the Teaching American History summer institute will be held between July 15 and 19, 2013. Workshop content will focus on ideas about freedom and liberty following the Civil War and continuing through the Civil Rights movement and activism in the 1960s and 70s.
Historical Thinking Skills Workshop
GMU Loudoun
Teachers in the full year TAH program: "Understanding Freedom," will meet on Saturday, September 21st to discuss American labor and how to assess student historical thinking.
Monticello Site Visit
Depart from LCPS administration building
Teachers enrolled in the Founding Documents and Ideals section of "Understanding Freedom" will attend a full day site visit to Monticello and explore the Sea of Liberty exhibit.
