Merry Wiesner-Hanks is Professor of History, the Director of the Center for Women’s Studies, and the Coordinator of the Comparative Study of Religion Program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is the coeditor of the Sixteenth Century Journal, and the author of over 50 articles and 10 books, including Working Women in Renaissance Germany (Rutgers, 1986), Women and Gender in Early Modern Europe (Cambridge, 1993; 2nd edition 2000), Christianity and Sexuality in the Early Modern World: Regulating Desire, Reforming Practice (Routledge, 2000), and Gender in History (Blackwell, 2001). She is the coeditor of several source books for women’s history, including Lives and Voices: A Sourcebook on European Women (Houghton-Mifflin, 2000), Ages of Woman, Ages of Man: Sources in Early Modern Social History (Longman, 2002), and Luther on Women: A Sourcebook (Cambridge: 2003), and is one of the authors of a series of books of sources and methodology for introductory history courses, Discovering the Western Past, Discovering the Global Past, Discovering the Medieval Past,etc. published by Houghton-Mifflin. Her work has been translated into German, Italian, Spanish, and Chinese.
