Although her career spanned nearly thirty years and she was a prolific writer, very little personal information is known about Mary Grace Halpine. Apparently she resided in Brooklyn for her obituary appeared in the Brooklyn Eagle (Adimari 121). About her publishing career, all that is known is what can be gleaned from the story papers she published in and current library holdings.

Her career began in 1852 when she published poems in Gleason’s Flag of Our Union. In 1853 her poems and short stories appeared in T.S. Arthur’s Home, and in in 1854 she was published in Godey’s. In 1864 she published The Prayer of Faith for the Boston Sabbath School Society. In 1870 her work was printed in Beadle and Adams story paper, The Saturday Journal. In the 1870s and the 1880s her work also appeared in Leslie’s Monthly and the Arm Chair.
