Material Culture - Objects: What is it?
Developed with Rob DeCaroli, George Mason University

This interactive exercise is designed for students. Students examine an object found during an archaeological dig at an ancient site in Thailand. They then answer a series of simple questions about the object. Based on these answers, students are challenged to make more complex deductions about the society that produced the object.

Material Culture - Objects: What is its date?
Developed with Michael Chang, George Mason University

This interactive exercise is designed for students. It shows how examining money carefully can help show a given society changed over time. Students read background information about societal changes in the People's Republic of China in the 20th century. They then are asked to examine two 10-yuan bills, one from 1965 and one from 1999, and determine which bill was printed in which year.
